Hertz Car Hire Donates Play Park

Hertz recognises the importance in contributing to the social development of underprivileged communities, as they strive not only to build a strong value system within the company but  also to share these with those around them.

The day of the Play Park handover marked not only an exhilarating day in the lives of tiny toddlers (aged three-five) at the Athlone School for the Blind, but also showed immense support for teachers and a positive boost in facilities. Hertz Car Hire generously donated the Hertz Car Hire Play Park to form part of a new Early Childhood Development Centre (ECD Centre).

Having previously worked together with the school on Mandela Day last year, Hertz Car Hire identified the need for a functional playground and delivered this as part of their 2013 CSR objective. Regional Western Cape Sales Manager, Silvia Labuschagne had the honour of handing over the Play Park. “It was heart warming to watch the visually impaired children enjoy the Play Park,” she remarked, “ for some of them this experience was a first.”

The Play Park is designed not only to provide the pre-schoolers with hours of endless fun but also to stimulate specific skills relating to orientation and mobility. Dr John Philander, Head of Psychology for Athlone School for the Blind discussed the immense challenges faced by learners at the ECD Centre. He also paid tribute to Hertz Car Hire for their contribution and care towards the development and education of these pre-schoolers.
