The Robertson Small Hotel is located at 58 Van Reenen Street, Robertson, Western Cape.

Revel in the past and pleasures of the quaint town of Robertson when The Robertson Small Hotel, a 5-star retreat where old-world elegance meets chic sophistication, relives the valley’s golden days with a Remembrance of Things Past Dinner on Saturday, 10 August.

Adding nostalgic charm to the 2013 Robertson Slow Festival – which takes place from 9-11 August – this award-winning boutique hotel will enliven the senses with a culinary journey back in time to recall the days of yesteryear when ostrich palaces, thoroughbred stud farms and wine estates reigned supreme in this fertile valley.

“We invite food and wine lovers who treasure a go slow mantra to join us for a leisurely feast of comforting classics from days gone by whilst we rekindle the past and explore the future of our valley with tastes from now and then. Your tastebuds will be transported to a time once lost but now found,” explains resident chef Tiaan van Greunen who heads up the hotel’s signature restaurant, Reuben’s at The Robertson Small.

Inspired by the treasured heirloom recipes of oumas and tannies, Tiaan will put his own unique stamp upon these timeless treasures with a lingering 5 course menu which celebrates the past in gourmet fashion. Think wholesome Sugar Bean Soup and farm bread; Biltong Parfait; rustic Ostrich Pie with plum sauce and a trio of traditional desserts – all served up with a contemporary twist.

With wine playing such an indelible part in the daily life of the Robertson Wine Valley, each of the five courses will be paired with a matching estate wine from the area.
