Winter-busting food and wine evening toasting the Helderberg: 11 June 2015

The NH Lord Charles Hotel in Somerset West is set to be a one stop wine route of home-grown deliciousness, when Taste the Helderberg 2015 serves up an exclusive evening of quality wine and food unique to the area on Thursday, 11 June 2015.

Now in its 7th year, the annual Taste the Helderberg is celebrated as one of the most popular social remedies for winter blues and offers a hub of Helderberg taste treasures under one roof. This year’s line-up will delight locavores and lovers of the finer things in life with a fusion of signature dishes, a good measure of fun and premium wines from this thriving Winelands region.

“Good food and wine is a sensory match made in heaven. Whisk in exceptional quality and fabulous company, and you have a celebratory feast like no other. Not even the rain or cold weather can put a damper on our Taste the Helderberg as the offerings are simply sizzling. It is the hottest event on the Winter Winelands calendar,” shares Annareth Bolton, CEO of the Stellenbosch American Express® Wine Routes.

The Helderberg area is a booming sub-route of the Stellenbosch Wine Routes and stretches from Somerset West to Stellenbosch and Sir Lowry’s Pass Village, with some of the country’s finest cellars, restaurants and eateries calling it their home.

Taste the Helderberg is your ticket to taste all the latest pleasures and passions from this neck of the woods. Guests will get ‘Helderberg happy’ with more than 100 fines wines from at least 25 stellar cellars and signature dishes from eminent chefs and artisan producers that promise to captivate all senses.

The local wine community offers a delicious mix that appeals to a variety of palates and ranges from time-honoured stalwarts to uber-cool boutique wineries; popular family-owned estates to eco-conscious pioneers. Lending flair to this exclusive tasting experience will be the likes of Avontuur, Hidden Valley, Ken Forrester Wines, Longridge, Lyngrove, Peter Falke, Vergenoegd and Waterkloof Estate.

Limited tickets for Taste the Helderberg 2015 are available at the cost of R80 per person. The ticket includes an elegantly branded wine glass and access to tasting some of the best wines in the country. Numerous restaurants will tempt the taste buds with mouth-watering portions of their signature delights which will be on sale throughout the evening.

The doors will be open from 17h00 to 21h00 but guests are encouraged to come early to make the most of the evening.
