Property Profile: Chilly Powder in the French Alps

Chilly Powder is an appropriate name for a 4-star ski hotel located in the famous Portes du Soleil region of the French Alps, where snow is almost guaranteed and average normal winter temperatures range around -1.6°C.

Based in the heart of the famous Portes du Soleil hamlet of Prodains in the French ski resort of Morzine, Avoriaz, Chilly Powder boasts a true ski-to-door experience, with a high-speed gondola to Avoriaz located near the main hotel entrance.  This means that guests have the advantage of not needing transportation each day before they even start to ski.  They also have a free button lift 30 meters away, a great way to get your ski legs warmed up on your arrival.

The area has plenty to offer for skiers of all abilities and ages, with over 650km of skiable terrain on the doorstep. Morzine is also the ideal place to discover two cultures as the resort lies in the heart of the Franco-Swiss region of the Portes du Soleil and its 12 interconnected resorts – meaning you can ski across the border into Switzerland, with views of Mont Blanc in one direction and Lake Geneva in the other. Portes du Soleil is among the largest ski areas in the world. A 1,950 meter-high pass that connects Morgins to Les Crosets.

The four-star chalet business, rated number one on Trip Advisor in the region, was founded by British couple Paul and Francesca Eyre who say: “We built Chilly Powder from the ground up almost 20 years ago now. It is so much more than just a hotel, it’s also our family home, and we put our hearts and souls into creating a memorable, unrivalled experience for every single one of our guests”.

Being a family run business means the couple have thought of every little detail to accommodate even the youngest of skiers at the chalet. Each winter, Chilly Powder’s fully qualified nannies care for children as young as 3 months old, allowing parents to enjoy their time on the mountain whilst knowing their children are well cared for and entertained in their in-house crèche. From age 4, Chilly Powder children can join their private ski school, with up to 6 children in each class.

Over the years, Chilly Powder has become renowned for its exquisite food and bespoke service, with their head chef creating all his menus using fresh and local produce, aided by owner Francesca who is a Cordon Bleu chef. Francesca says: “We love to provide our guests with a wow factor that excites them and is completely different to other ski/chalet companies. We cater for all tastes and provide restaurant quality meals. Our menu is one of the main reasons why our guests come back year after year.”

Chilly Powder is also perfectly equipped for non-skiers or anyone looking to take a break from the slopes, with the chalet-hotel also providing direct access to a range of activities, including ice sleigh rides, glacier walking and ice diving in the winter, and white water rafting, hydro speeding, paragliding and trail running in the summer.

The ski to the door location, family friendly atmosphere, superb cuisine and excellent facilities make Chilly Powder entirely unique in Morzine if not the Alps and keep guests coming back year on year.
