SA Tourism Stats: Jan-Sep 2016

The data continues to indicate the recovery of international arrivals from 2015 as reflected in the growth in Stats SA foreign arrival data, growth in the rates of 5-star hotels and growth in the arrivals on international and regional flights.

By Martin Jansen van Vuuren of Grant Thornton.

The domestic tourism market has also grown as reflected in the growth in the rates of 3-star hotels and arrivals on domestic flights.

The growth in foreign tourism is partially driven by the decline in the Rand exchange rate and the tourism industry is cautioned to build their competitive advantage on quality and service rather than depend on a depreciating exchange rates.
