To mark the anniversary of the official opening of Ongava Lodge by His Excellency President of the Republic of Namibia Dr Hage Geingob on the 20th of March 1993 – at the time Prime Minister – Ongava Game Reserve was honoured to host Namibian dignitaries at Little Ongava.

Amidst wonderful conversation Ongava’s future plans were discussed, memories shared along with fantastic game viewing while savouring Little Ongava’s excellent hospitality, facilities and cuisine.

“We were pleased to update The Head of State, The First Lady and The Minister of Environment and Tourism on the conservation advances that have taken place at Ongava in the intervening years, our rhino success story – in partnership with the Ministry of Environment – in particular,” says Rob Moffett, GM Sales & Marketing at Ongava Game Reserve.

Planning is now completed and works will soon commence on the new camp – Andersson’s at Ongava – located next to the site of The Ongava Research Centre, and scheduled for completion on July 1st, 2018. With seven guest and one family unit the style and design is a testament to the future of conservation travel yet retaining traditional elements.

Ensuring a high value, exclusive experience the Andersson’s at Ongava camp will only have seven Guest Units and a Family Unit, accommodating a maximum of 18 Guests. As per plan Andersson’s Camp discontinues at the end of 2017 as the site is redeveloped for the Ongava Research Centre and the associated lodgings.

“I need to thank our travel trade partners and our guests for their patience over the series of temporary closures from January through to March during which time the camps received a dose of deep maintenance and improvements. Ongava Tented Camp enjoyed a botox injection of note,” concluded Moffett – several images of the improvements can be viewed at this link.
