Big Names on board for SETE 2014

This years’ Sports and Events Tourism Exchange (SETE) conference and exhibition, taking place at the Durban International Convention Centre (ICC) on 29 and 30 October, will see top South African names from Cell C and Nedbank featuring alongside that of Martin Reynolds, Head of Marketing, Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

The SETE conference looks to facilitate relationships between South Africa’s tourism, sports and events industries, by promoting South Africa as the ideal destination for popular events. The conference will centre the spotlight on opportunities and challenges involved in making South Africa an attractive destination for events, as well as promoting Africa as a training destination for athletes. Conference speakers and delegates will be giving once in a lifetime advice to attendees about how to bid and attract mega and medium-sized sports events to South Africa and the African continent.

Fresh from the recent Commonwealth Games held in Glasgow this July, is head of Marketing Mr Martin Reynolds. Mr Reynolds will share his 10 years of experience working with some of the world’s best-loved events and entertainment brands. Before the Glasgow Games, he worked with cultural and major events – with senior marketing roles at the Edinburgh Festival, Sydney Opera House and the National Galleries of Scotland.

With over 15 years of brand marketing and sponsorship experience on blue-chip brands, Mr Wayne Merris – Cell C brings diverse experience to the SETE panel, including commercial sponsorship management and leveraging at the highest level, local football media and premium global brand marketing.

Mr Sydney Mbhele – Nedbank is a marketer with a proven record of accomplishment in building brands and markets. In his current role as Divisional Executive: Group Marketing at Nedbank, he oversees Brand, Advertising, Media, Sponsorships, Digital Marketing & Cause Marketing for the Group.

In addition, conference attendees can look forward to hearing from, Ms Gillian Saunders, who will speak about Global and National Trends of the Sports and Events Tourism Industry, Professor Guy Masterman whose topic is Planning for Event Legacies using Multi-Sport Event Case Studies and Mr Michael Linley who will speak on Bidding & Hosting International Events – international Buyers perspective.

The Sports and Events Tourism Exchange is hosted by the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Economic Development and Tourism, partnered by CATHSSETA, SASCOC, Tourism KZN and Durban Tourism, South African Airways, Tsogo Sun and supported by Durban KZN Convention Bureau and the exclusive broadcasting partner SABC Sport and Radio 2000.
