Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), has relocated to new premises in Sandton, Johannesburg. The move is a result of the expansion of its operation within the region, and will provide increased access for trade and regional partners.
The new premises are now on the sixth floor of the iconic Ernst & Young (EY) Building, number 102 Rivonia Road and corner West Road in Sandton. The building is located close to the Sandton Gautrain Station and the Sandton City Shopping Centre.
Maurice Phohleli, Etihad Airways’ Vice President for Africa Sub-Sahara and the Indian Ocean, said: “The move to new premises in Johannesburg’s Sandton Central Business District will improve our ability to work with our local trade and corporate customers. It will also ensure we work closely with the regional team and our equity partners, engendering better efficiencies across both teams.”
Etihad Airways’ continued commitment to Africa is testament to the increased demand for air travel, as a result of the region’s economic growth. From the new premises, the regional team will manage commercial operations in Sub-Saharan Africa and the Indian Ocean Islands Region.
John Friel, Etihad Airways’ General Manager for South Africa, added, “We have experienced strong growth since 2007, when we first established an office in South Africa, and we are committed to expanding and growing our operations. With this move, we are now strategically positioned at the city’s economic pulse, within convenient reach of corporate and individual clients, existing partners, stakeholders and possible new ventures.”
Etihad Airways’ country office in South Africa was established in 2007 with two weekly flights connecting Johannesburg to Abu Dhabi. Currently, the airline operates two daily flights to Abu Dhabi, with one operated by South African Airways connecting South Africa to over 110 destinations globally.
