Cleaning Up To 232,183 Rooms Every Year, Hilton Worldwide Housekeeping Teams Celebrate Their Special Week
Johannesburg, South Africa: 17 September 2013 – Hilton Worldwide celebrated the hospitality industry’s Housekeeping Week across Southern Africa by recognising the invaluable work that its housekeeping teams undertake throughout the year.
Celebrated annually, during the second week in September, this year’s celebration was bigger and better than ever with housekeeping teams recognised at the five Hilton Worldwide properties across the region.
Hilton Worldwide prepared a special programme of events and giveaways for all of its housekeeping teams. Many hotels planned a series of housekeeping competitions with Conrad Pezula Resort & Spa hosting room cleaning competitions between management and housekeeping teams, while Hilton Cape Town City Centre presented awards in various categories, including the best Room Attendant.
Jan Van der Putten, Hilton Worldwide Vice president of operations in Africa and Indian Ocean said: “Hilton Worldwide’s housekeeping teams are an integral part of our guest offering. They keep our rooms shining and our guests smiling so it’s only fitting that while we show our appreciation for them all year round, each September, we have a seven day celebration of their hard work.”
Perfecting the art of hospitality, team members across the Southern Africa region clean up to 232,183 rooms every year with one of Hilton Durban’s senior supervisor’s checking a record 166,400 rooms during her 16 years at the hotel.
Vacuuming the equivalent of an astonishing 6,500 square metres, the housekeeping team at Conrad Pezula work tirelessly to ensure the hotel facilities continue to accommodate a seamless guest experience. With an extensive training program in place to ensure a premium standard of service, a fully-trained housekeeper is able to clean each room to perfection within just 45 minutes.
At the 327-room Hilton Durban, the 85-strong housekeeping team use up to 90 litres of all-purpose cleaner every week to keep the rooms sparkling clean. Whilst washing, dusting, vacuuming and more, the housekeepers also ensure in-room amenities are replaced when necessary.
Appreciating these convenient extras, guests at Hilton Cape Town City Centre and Hilton Sandton respectively make use of an astounding 18,000 and 33,300 bars of soap every year. At Hilton Windhoek, guests consume more than 18,771 cups of coffee while guests at Hilton Sandton have enjoyed 41,130 cups of tea over the last year.
“Offering world class service and amenities, Hilton Worldwide’s hotels constantly receive appreciation from guests globally for their consistently high levels of service excellence,” concluded Van der Putten.
