The Happiest 5K on the Planet Runs to Marriott Rewards

Cape Town, 16th September 2016: For the first time, and continuing its love for lifestyle events, award winning loyalty programme Marriott Rewards has teamed up with “The Happiest 5K on the Planet”, The Color Run Johannesburg and Cape Town.

The Color Run is currently in its 5th year, and was founded to bring communities together and generally promote health and happiness. Since its debut, it has tripled in growth, with more than 200 events having been hosted in more than 50 countries, with upwards of 5 million runners taking part to date.

“Passionate communities are perhaps the ultimate examples of loyalty, and this is a perfect example of how Marriott Rewards partners with key lifestyle events all over the world to bring more unique lifestyle offerings to our members beyond the global member benefits that are part of the programme,” said Mark Satterfield, Chief Operating Officer, Marriott International, Middle East & Africa.

Marriott Rewards has partnered with The Color Run to offer some amazing prizes in the lead up to The Color Run Jozi on 25th September.  20 entries will win 2 tickets each to participate in The Color Run Jozi, but the bigger prize is that all entries have a chance to win a four night stay in any of the participating Protea Hotels by Marriott® across South Africa!

It doesn’t stop there.  Marriott Rewards has also purchased more than 3000 beaded bracelets, made by 100% not-for-profit social enterprise Relate Bracelets, which will be distributed to participants at the event. The bracelets support the Rotary SafeWater Project – a fundraising arm of the Rotary Club of Sea Point, to raise funds to supply Lifestraw water filters to communities throughout Africa.

“This investment will provide much-needed Lifestraw units in communities in Johannesburg and Cape Town. These units filter 100,000 litres of contaminated water, which is enough to give 2000 individuals in need around 500ml of clean and safe drinking water per day for up to 3 years,” Mark Satterfield, Chief Operating Officer, Marriott International, Middle East & Africa  explains.
