African destinations and tourism products need to proactively focus on marketing themselves in the emerging markets of Asia, especially India and China, writes Michael Jones.

After living in Beijing for the past 11 years, and having personally witnessed its unparalleled economic transformation, I am confident that China will become South Africa’s fourth largest source of overseas arrivals within the next two years currently has annual arrivals of 84,000 at average yearly growth of more than 20%. I have little doubt that China has the potential to become South Africa’s largest source of overseas travelers by 2020.
