The historic Delheim Estate outside Stellenbosch wards off the winter blues with their popular Cheese Fondue & Jazz indulgences, every Sunday lunch from 28 June until 30 August.
Their cosy ‘downstairs’ tasting cellar – snug with low ceilings and rustic, candlelit tables – sets the scene for families and friends to huddle around fondue pots and ease into a laidback Sunday afternoon, enriched with lingering aromas of pungent melting cheese, quality estate wines and jazzy tunes.
Delheim swirls their cheese fondue to an authentic Swiss recipe that oozes deliciousness and combines Emmental, Gruyère and white wine for a hearty ‘blast from the past’. The fondue makes its way to your table with oven fresh baguette dippers and vegetable crudités. Guests can also order starters from Delheim’s Garden Restaurant à la carte menu at an additional cost.
A Delheim Cheese Fondue & Jazz Sunday costs R200 per person and includes a warming glass of Glühwein on arrival, a shared cheese fondue and the soulful, live music which will keep the feet tapping from 12h30 until 15h30. A weekly general knowledge quiz on various Delheim topics will keep the competitive spirits alive – great prizes are up for grabs.
Delheim’ s winemaker, Reg Holder, suggests that one kicks off the afternoon with a wine tasting session to find the best white or red partner – albeit his off-dry Gewurztraminer and classy Chardonnay or classic Shiraz – for your fondue or to take home for your winter sips next to the fireplace.
