African Inspiration Lion for Born Free Foundation

African Inspiration, a Leisure & Lifestyle Marketing company working with various Hospitality and Tourism related products and other African and South African Lifestyle brands, has sponsored a Lion for the Pride of Cape Town initiative under the Born Free Foundation centre operating out of the Shamwari Game Reserve in the Eastern Cape.

“My passion for Conservation and the profiling of the plight of African and South African wildlife is a driving force in my life and we need to step in to create awareness of this fragile situation – Lions are now under threat along with the Rhino and Elephant” Tom Jager, Director of African Inspiration.

The creative design process was initiated and managed by M.Christian Smith Creative Studio. “ The African landscape is a powerful source of inspiration on many levels. The strength of Africa and Her people and the abundant offering of this continent serves to inspire.” Morné Christian Smith, Director of M.Christian Smith Creative Studio

The Born Free Foundation is an international wildlife charity working throughout the world to stop individual wild animal suffering and to protect threatened species in the wild.

Pride of Cape Town is a world-class, major public art event that will see a fabulous pride of life-size lion sculptures, designed and painted by talented local artists, prowling the iconic V&A Waterfront for 8 weeks this summer in aid of international wildlife charity, the Born Free Foundation. The Lion sculptures will showcase the creativity of Cape Town; its heritage, architecture, regeneration and arts scene, as well as raise awareness of the plight of big cats in Africa.

Pride of Cape Town will animate the V&A Waterfront creating a memorable experience for all, attracting thousands of people and encouraging residents to become ‘tourists in their own city’. The event will culminate in a charity auction on Friday 3rd May 2013, with net proceeds from the sale of the lion sculptures being donated to Born Free.

PRIDE OF CAPE TOWN aims to raise money for Born Free’s work to protect and conserve lions in the wild. Lion numbers have dramatically dropped due to persecution, loss of habitat and unsustainable trophy-hunting. Their position has never been more perilous and there may be as few as 25,000 left across the entire continent. Born Free already has long-established links with South Africa and operates Big Cat Rescue and Education Centres at the prestigious Shamwari Game Reserve in the Eastern Cape. Each stunning lion will be released to ‘prowl’ the streets of Cape Town in 2013, sponsored by individuals and companies and uniquely decorated by international and local artists in an ‘eye-catching’ and creative way. PRIDE OF CAPE TOWN is being presented in partnership with Wild in Art and Shamwari Group and is kindly supported by SAA and the V&A Waterfront.
