Open Access For All During National Parks Week
PRETORIA, 28 August 2018 – South African National Parks (SANParks) for the thirteenth year is once again opening up its parks during South African National Parks Week with free, open access to all South Africans. The 2018 Annual SA National Parks Week is scheduled for 10 to 14 September 2018.
The opening will be officiated by the Minister of Environmental Affairs, Ms Edna Molewa on Sunday, 9 September 2018 at the Phalaborwa Gate, Kruger National Park.
The objective of SA National Parks Week is to cultivate a sense of understanding and pride in South Africans of their natural, cultural and historical heritage; which is the basis for the established theme ‘Know Your National Parks’.
The week grants free access to most of the 21 national parks for day visitors, especially people from the local communities. It should be noted that free access to parks does not in include free access to accommodation facilities and other tourist activities. Some of the parks will be extending the week to include the weekend.
