South Africa’s Timbavati launches unique field camp concept, a first for the country

The Timbavati Private Nature Reserve, forming part of Greater Kruger National Park in South Africa, has launched a unique field camp experience which is a first for the country.

Tanda Tula Field Camp, an exclusive-use, tented, walking safari camp located in a private concession of over 16 000 acres in the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve, is a non-permanent explorer-styled tented camp that has been considered the most environmentally friendly camp in South Africa.

The field camp has evolved to meet the growing requirement in the market for privacy and exclusivity, in one of the few remaining privatewilderness areas forming part of the Greater Kruger National Park.

Tanda Tula Field Camp is a unique safari experience unlike any other. Consisting of four custom designed tents, with en-suite open air bush bathrooms and a communal mess tent, Tanda Tula Field Camp draws on the traditions of the classic East African safari with detailed campaign style furniture and soft furnishings from the Cape, North Africa, and Zanzibar. The field camp is set up and taken down for each safari, making it the ultimateeco-friendly camp, designed for minimum energy consumption and ground impact.

The camp caters for between 2 and 8 guests on an exclusive-use basis only. Guests are hosted by some of the industry’s leading iconic guides who accompany them on an extraordinary journey of exploration and adventure. Nina Scott, who owns Tanda Tula with her husband Don says, ‘’The emphasis is on walking safaris and tracking big game on foot. This experience is all aboutyou, your guide and tracker, and the incredible wilderness that we are so privileged to share with our guests”.

The field guides are accompanied by a small convoy of camp staff, including a chef and barman, as well as all equipment necessary for a self contained camp in the bush. Don Scott adds, “Having personally experienced our own field camp recently, what struck me most was the sense of being immersed in another time and getting back to the kind of safari experienced by our fore-fathers many years ago. I found this was fashioned by everything, from the white cotton canvas tents, to the comfort and elegance of the mess tent, to being on foot for 3 days amongst the most extraordinary wildlife”.

Tanda Tula Field Camp operates from 01 March to 31 October each year. Locations vary in accordance with the natural environment, vegetation, game movements and weather patterns.

Tanda Tula is recognised as one of South Africa’s top tented safari camp operations, and was recently awarded the National Lilizela Tourism Award for Service Excellence. Tanda Tula is not only about the incredible game viewing, superb food and beautiful tented accommodation, it’s so much more about their people, their passion and their longstanding loyalty which makes the Tanda Tula Camps an unforgettable experience.

In line with the launch of the new field camp, Tanda Tula have completely redeveloped and launched their new website, adopting newer technology, more imagery and advanced yet easy to use booking modules.
