Ultimate Wine & Sport Auction for Charity

Despite its name, it’s not only rare and highly sought after wines that are up for offer at the 2018 Cape Wine Auction event, but exclusive invitations to some of the best sporting events for those fans with big chequebooks and even bigger hearts.

Two of the amazing lots that include once-in-a-lifetime sporting opportunities include:

For Football fans: VIP tickets to a select 2018/19 regular season match at historic Old Trafford in Manchester as well as a 2017/18 Manchester United FC training top signed by Paul Pogba. The package comprises two VIP tickets, a three-course meal at the stadium, a souvenir gift, Manchester United legend meet and greet and souvenir photo, a mini tour of the stadium and megastore discount voucher. The lot also includes two business class return tickets from SA to the UK sponsored by South African Airways.

For Cycling fans: The winning bidder and a partner will enjoy a first-hand experience of the world’s most iconic cycling race – the Tour de France – courtesy of Nederburg, the exclusive premium wine partner of Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka. The trip includes business class return flights, accommodation and meals, a meet and greet with some of the Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka cyclists, a tour the squad’s impressive bus, and a sleek, state-of-the-art Cervelo S5 aero road bicycle, (as used by professional cyclist Mark Renshaw), which has an approximate value of R64 000. In addition, as a tribute to Nederburg’s legacy for excellence in winemaking, the bidder will enjoy a rare six-bottle collection of Nederburg Private Bin R163 Cabernet Sauvignon 2013, awarded the Arcadia trophy for the best Cabernet Sauvignon at the 2016 International Wine & Spirit Competition.

The action kicks off on Friday, February 9, at the Tokara Deli on the Tokara Wine and Olive Estate with the American Express Barrel Auction, followed by the main event – the Cape Wine Auction – sponsored by Nedbank Private Wealth – taking place the following day on Saturday, February 10, at the Rustenberg Estate in Stellenbosch.

The 2018 Auction Lots are unique, one of a kind experiences, that are not available for purchase. They include rare wines, exceptional private homes, supremely talented chefs and winemakers, and access to the inner sanctum of the South African wine industry. These opportunities come along once, for one auction, and they are not repeated.

Every cent of all monies raised will go to 27 carefully selected beneficiaries who make a profound impact on education and the lives of children in the Cape Winelands region. Last year’s auction raised a staggering R22.3 million and the organisers are determined to better that figure this year.
